Land the Job You Want

From knowing what you want to a signed offer: CV, applications, networking, interviews and negotiation.

For students, career changers and anyone looking for their next job. Twelve short lessons take you through choosing the roles to aim for, writing a CV that gets read, applying and networking well, preparing for interviews with real examples, and negotiating the offer. Examples fit job hunting both in Iran and abroad.

By the end you can

Know what you want

Map your skills and values, research roles, and choose your targets.

  1. What you can do, and what you want

List your skills from real evidence, name the values and limits a job has to respect, and find where they overlap. That overlap is where your search starts.

  2. Find out what the job really is

Read job ads like data, sort real requirements from wish lists, and learn what a role feels like from someone who does it.

  3. Choose your targets

Turn your self-map and research into one or two clear target roles, with a Plan B and a way to close the gap.

Get noticed

A CV that gets read, applications that fit, and an online profile.

  1. A CV that gets read

Build a CV that survives a quick skim: a strong top third, achievement bullets with real results, and the right conventions for Iran or abroad.

  2. Applications that fit the job

Adapt your CV to each ad in about twenty minutes, use the employer's words honestly, and write a short cover letter that connects their needs to your proof.

  3. Your online profile

Set up a profile that recruiters can find and trust: a clear headline, a short about section, proof of your work, and a tidy public footprint.

Find the openings

Network without awkwardness, use job boards well, and follow up.

  1. Networking without the awkwardness

The people who can help you are often one or two conversations away. Learn to use weak ties, ask for advice instead of favours, and write a short message people actually answer.

  2. Where the openings are

Job boards are only one of several doors. Learn which channel suits which goal, how applications get sorted, how to spot a fake job, and how to track your search so you can see what's working.

  3. Following up without pestering

Silence after an application or interview is normal. Learn when and how to write a thank-you, how often to check in, what to do while you wait, and how to answer a rejection so the door stays open.

Win the offer

Prepare stories for interviews, handle the hard questions, and negotiate.

  1. Interview stories that prove it

Anyone can claim to be a team player; a short true story is evidence. Learn the STAR shape, talk about what you did, and build a bank of stories that answers most behavioural questions.

  2. Handling the hard questions

A handful of questions come up in almost every interview and make people freeze. Prepare calm, honest answers to "tell me about yourself", weaknesses, leaving, gaps and salary, and to what to ask them.

  3. Negotiating the offer

The offer is when you have the most room to shape your pay and conditions. Learn to find your numbers, know your alternative, make one clear ask and get the result in writing, then put the whole course together.
